Bassdozer's Spinnerbaits

"Don't you love catching bass on spinnerbaits? From topwater to deep structure, fast to slow, in thick cover and open water, day or night, spinnerbaits can do it all.  I make my own because there's no where else or no other way I can get precisely what works best for me - the overall balance, blades, spacing, wire diameter, components and colors I know I can depend on to produce quality bass when all else fails." - Russ Bassdozer

Skirts Plus Custom Skirt Colors

Genuine Bio-Flex silicone skirts by Skirts Plus are custom made for Bassdozer. All have 44 to 50 full-length, double-facing skirt strands. They are super soft for pulsating breathing skirt action.

Table Rock Shad. A popular, productive color in jerkbaits and crankbaits. Bassdozer is the first to offer this stunning skirt color for spinnerbaits and jigs too.

Purple Chartreuse. There's no stopping Bassdozer's innovative spirit. This productive jerkbait and crankbait color is now available for the first time in a Bassdozer custom skirt. Be the first to show the bass on your home lake this hot new Bassdozer original.

Shad-A-Delic. Oh yeah, baby! Bassdozer's favorite custom shad pattern skirt in his own special blend of three groovy shad-a-delic colors.

Super Silver Shad. Shad are among the shiniest meals a bass is ever likely to eat - and so are these dazzlingly brilliant Bassdozer skirts! Half silver foil fish scale imprint on both sides. Half bright silver hologram. Skirts so shiny and flashy, the bass may need to wear sunglasses.

Golden Shiner. This skirt has highly-reflective gold and pale green crystals that light up and shine in clear water. Plus a golden black fish scale accent. Smallmouth go nuts over this.

Chartreuse/White. The best and most popular spinnerbait skirt color in history. Several of the sport's top celebrity anglers have made their careers by throwing chartreuse/white spinnerbaits.

White Shad. Half metallic white. The other half is silver neon. Bassdozer put the two halves together to make the perfect shad sandwich!

Summer Shad. Half superfine silver. Half clear with pale green or pale blue hologram. Plus a silvery black fish scale accent. Shad may show an aqua blue or pale green tinge at any time of year, but especially from mid-summer (blue) to early autumn (green).

Blue Chartreuse. A tremendously popular crankbait color these days. This fantastic color is now available in a Bassdozer custom skirt.

Black Chartreuse. Bassdozer fashioned this awesome custom skirt to resemble the Bagley crankbait color used by Takahiro Omori to win the 2004 CITGO Bassmaster Classic.

Fire Tiger. So many anglers have experienced good catches with fire tiger crankbaits, that some manufacturers claim it is their top crankbait color. Now Bassdozer has fired up this highly productive custom skirt color!

Golden Monkey Shine. Most people who see this custom Bassdozer color will never try it. Their mistake. It's kind of a cross between chartreuse pepper and watermelon pepper - and it catches a ton of fish. It has a golden black fish scale accent.

Green Sunfish. Most bass lures are designed to imitate shad, shiners, minnows and crayfish, but make no mistake, sunfish are present everywhere bass are, and they are a staple food in bass diets.

Brown Sunfish. You read and hear a whole lot more about shad, shiners, minnows and crayfish, but don't let that fool you. Bass eat sunfish all the time everywhere.

Black/Blue. The number one color in flipping jigs and soft plastics. Bassdozer designed this custom-blended black/blue beauty to be truly great. The perfect portion of reflective blue foil adds a lifelike shine and flash. Royal blue tips add the perfect contrasting kick of blue tip color.

Bassdozer says: "When fish are hitting your spinnerbait but don't get hooked, they're telling you your spinnerbait is pretty close to what they want - but something's still not quite right. One of the easiest things you can do is turn the skirt upside down. Bass may be striking from an angle that puts the wire blade arm directly in their path, blocking the hook point. Turning the skirt upside down may change the attack angle so that bass do not hit the wire blade arm first. I have seen this simple trick pay off big, and even win tournaments!"

Which Skirt to Use When?

The spinnerbait is a versatile and complex lure. The choice of skirt color can be as important as the choice of blade shapes, sizes and colors. A chartreuse/white skirt is by far the most popular choice. A solid white skirt (with optional color accent strands or various flakes) is good too. A solid black skirt (optionally with blue, red, purple or chartreuse accent strands) can work anywhere, any time from gin clear to jet black water. I like fire tiger skirts when water is muddier than usual or in grass beds with limited visibility due to dense vegetation. Fire tiger also works well in early spring and late fall when bass are up shallow and aggressive. Lots of people use solid chartreuse, but I personally don't like it. I have seen a few too many fish bolt and run from solid chartreuse spinnerbaits, only to circle back and smoke something more natural like a jig/pig or tubebait. However, I do like half chartreuse skirts, with half another color. At night, I consistently use a solid white or solid black skirt (optionally with blue, red, purple or chartreuse accent strands in it).

Fact is, you can use any color on a spinnerbait skirt that matches whatever you would use on a rubber jig, a soft plastic bait or crankbait. If there is some lure of a certain color that you have been doing well with, match the color on a spinnerbait. Chances are you will do well with that color spinnerbait too.

And yes indeed, you can use any crawdad colors on a spinnerbait and do well - blacks, browns, greens - with orange, red or blue accent strands. After all, a spinnerbait is just a bass jig wearing a flashy earring or two on it. Try black/red, black/blue, brown/orange, brown/purple, watermelon/red, green pumpkin - whatever works best on jig type lures or soft plastics will also work great on spinnerbaits.

Bassdozer says: "The three most popular kinds of soft plastic power fishing jig trailers are: 1) craw worms, 2) twin tail grubs and 3) imitation soft plastic pork chunks. Although all three are used everywhere, there are regional favorites. The crawfish is used more often as a jig trailer in northern tier states. The twin tail grub is more common across the middle states from coast to coast. The soft plastic pork chunk is the favored jig trailer of the Southeast."
